Freedom has been on top of the WPIAL Class "A" rankings for the entire season with an unblemished record.
That was until tonight.
The OLSH Chargers took down the top rated Bulldogs at Youthtowne 4-2, getting revenge for the earlier season loss and shaking up the section standings with just one week to play before the postseason begins. With the win the Chargers clinch a playoff birth their 5th consecutive season, they also set up a opportunity to take sole position of 2nd place in the conference.
Freedom took and early goal lead, but
Paige Smith got the Chargers square once again and they didn't look back.
Julia Centofanti would find the net to give the purple and gold their first lead of the the evening, and would add to that lead when Centofanti found the net again making it 3-1. Freedom quickly bounced back and cut the Charger lead back to one, a lead they would hang on to for much of the second half of play. In the waning minutes of play,
Alexa Taylor scored putting the game out of reach for good. Goaltender
Isabella Costanzo had a great night in net denying any possible scoring chances as the Bulldogs desperation showed in the final minutes.
The Chargers improve to (7-2) on the season with the final section game vs. Neshannock (0-7) and Senior Recognition night.
