The No. 14 seed Carlynton Cougars gave the No. 3 seed OLSH Chargers everything they could handle in the opening round of the WPIAL Playoffs Tuesday night at Peters Township High School.
But like so many games this season, the Chargers found a way to come out victorious.
The "way" to win was freshman
Dan Bourgeois...again. Bourgeois scored in the 11th minute of play in the second half becoming the only goal that was a need to advance to the WPIAL quarterfinals, something the Chargers haven't done since 2015.
It's not the first time Danny has been responsible for late game heroics this season, it was the freshmen that had the double overtime game winner against Sewickley Academy, who also happens to be the Chargers next opponent.
Dawson Summers has been a brick wall in goal for the Chargers, the junior earned his 8th shutout of the season in 12 games, and has allowed just 4 goals all season.
The win sets up a showdown with section rival Sewickley Academy in the WPIAL Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon, the third meeting between the two teams this season. The previous two match ups with the Panthers have both gone to overtime, but Sewickley hasn't scored in the series. OLSH notched the win at Youthtowne 1-0 in 2OT and the Panthers and Chargers played to a 0-0 draw at Nickles Field in the last meeting.
