Boys Cross Country

OLSH Cross Country Girls are WPIAL Team Runner ups and the OLSH Guys team win WPIAL Cross Country Title!

At Roadman Park at California University on October 27, the boys team and girls cross country team again qualified for States to be held in Hershey on November 5th.
This year both the girls and boys came home with WPIAL team trophies. OLSH parent and family support was very strong at the meet.

The boys cross country team placed 1st overall and became WPIAL Team Champions! They upset the favorites and peaked for this important meet of the year and won a close meet over Winchester Thurston and Riverview.

Senior Maxwell Hamilton had not raced in a month due to injury but came back strong and determined to lead the Chargers with a 3rd place finish and fast time of 16:52 on the hilly course. Sophomore Ryan Groff placed 7th with a time of 17:30.9 and Senior Peter Sweeney closed the last mile and placed 12th with a time of 17:51.1. All 3 boys medaled. Junior Will Stickman placed 18th and ran 18:07 and missed a medal by 5 seconds. And Freshman Brayden Douglass sprinted to the finish in 34th place to ensure the WPIAL Championship for the boys with a time of 18:07.9. Freshman Wes Goshen and Oliver Tomsic also contributed to the win.

The girls cross country team continued the tradition of OLSH girl excellence by becoming WPIAL Team Runner Ups.
The team was lead by Sophomore Gianna Mosca who placed 15th overall and medaled with a time of 22:00.9. Freshman Charlotte Gauntner placed 29th with a time of 22:44.7 and Sophomore Emily Funka placed third on the team by placing 32nd with a time of 23:04.2.

Sophomore Margaret Sweeney placed 34th with a time of 23:15.3 and Junior Mary Grace Gauntner placed 36th with a time of 23:21.1 and closed out the team scoring. Seniors and leaders Abby Wertz and Kyleigh Nagy also contributed to the team.

Good luck to our WPIAL Champions and Runner ups at States next week!
