The Chargers boys soccer program officially kicked off the 2025 season on Saturday with a strong showing from both JV and Varsity squads in a home match-up against Trinity Christian.
JV Game Recap:
The JV team set the tone early with a commanding 7-0 victory. Blake Bennett led the offensive charge with an impressive 3 goals, followed by Jake Huet who added two goals of his own. Trey Moses and Jeremy Ye each contributed a goal to round out the scoring. Defensively, goalkeeper Jack Dewhirst came up big with a key penalty kick save to preserve the shutout.
Varsity Game Recap:
The Varsity match proved to be a much closer contest. The first 25 minutes were evenly matched with both teams battling for control. The Falcons managed to break through first, scoring around the 25-minute mark. However, the Chargers wasted no time responding—just two minutes later, Brady Hernandez found the back of the net off an assist from Andre Kolocouris to tie the game at 1-1.
The second half saw the Chargers take command. Around the 60th minute, Aaron Callahan scored directly off a corner kick to put the team ahead 2-1. From there, the defense stepped up, with goalkeeper Patrick Altmar making several clutch one-on-one saves to protect the lead.
With the 2-1 win, the Varsity team starts their season 1-0 and looks to carry this momentum forward.
