OLSH Girls Volleyball Team Secures Back-to-Back Wins

The Chargers girls volleyball team delivered back-to-back wins this week, improving to 5-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in section play.

Night One: OLSH vs. Aliquippa

The action began with the JV squad setting the tone, sweeping the Quips in straight sets with scores of 25-13 and 25-10.

The varsity team had a shaky start in their opener. After falling behind early in Set 1, the Chargers mounted an impressive comeback, closing the gap but ultimately dropping the set in a tight 24-26 battle. However, the momentum quickly shifted. The Chargers regrouped, tightened their defense, and dominated the rest of the match, taking the next three sets 25-12, 25-11, and 25-14, securing a 3-1 match victory. Izabella Coladonato led the offense with 22 kills and 4 aces, while Leah Parker added 18 kills and 6 aces. Carmella Rippole ran the court with 16 assists, contributing 3 kills and 4 aces. Jordyn Velmire added 11 assists and served a team-high 9 aces. At the net, Malley Woynar led with 5 blocks, and Adrianna Batts chipped in with 4 kills from the middle.

Night Two: Chargers at Northgate

On the second night, the Chargers hit the road for a section match-up against Northgate, and once again both JV and varsity delivered dominant performances.

The JV team swept the Flames with scores of 25-15 and 25-10, controlling the tempo and maintaining control throughout.

The varsity team followed suit, sweeping Northgate in three straight sets 25-16, 25-15, and 25-11.The Chargers' balanced offense and strong defense kept the Flames from ever gaining a foothold in the match. Offensively, Leah Parker and Malley Woynar each tallied 4 kills, while Frankie Schlatterer, Karstyn Soulidis, and Jenna Nastal contributed 3 kills apiece. Carmella Rippole had 14 assists and picked up 6 digs, while Jordyn Velmire added 6 assists and 2 kills.

On the defensive end, Sophia Wasko led with 10 digs, and Frankie Schlatterer provided a presence at the net with 2 blocks. From the service line, Leah Parker led with 5 aces, and Julia Davoli followed with 4.

With two strong wins under their belts, the Chargers will enjoy a well-earned two-day break before returning to the court on Monday to prepare for next week's matches.
