OLSH Boys Basketball Sets New WPIAL Record for Consecutive Wins

The Chargers' 52nd consecutive win on Monday night tied the WPIAL record set by Uniontown (1963-65) and Washington (1983-85). Tonight, they beat it.

OLSH played the South Side Area Rams tonight, winning 82 - 46. The Chargers had 29 rebounds, 22 assists, and 14 steals in the game, and Jake DiMichele scored a whopping 35 points!

The Chargers have been on a roll for over two years, last experiencing a loss on January 7, 2020.

Being in pressure-filled situations before has prepared them for this moment. They've seen it all, and felt comfortable in their ability to compete at a high level in each of their contests.

While this year's team gets to enjoy the moment of breaking a record that's been around for nearly 60 years, this season's success was built on that of past teams and experience. New starters who've played with since-graduated members of the team have stepped up to keep the winning tradition going.

But the Chargers haven't let the streak go to their heads. They're taking their matchups one game at a time, only focusing on each opponent as they cross them.

When asked what the record means to him and his team, Coach Mike Rodriguez said, "It's just an honor to even be included in the conversation that includes those historic Uniontown and Washington teams.  They had unbelievable athletes on those teams.  I'm very proud of our guys over the years and my coaches that have been with me during this time.  I'm honored for our program to be recognized for this."

Charger fans have shown up in full support of the boys basketball team this year, and the basketball team has paid it forward by showing their own support of their fellow student athletes in their respective sports. Charger pride is running high, and we're so excited to continue to cheer these outstanding young athletes on to victory!
