The boys' and girls' track and field teams faced tough New Brighton squads this week in their second section meet of the season.
The girls' team improved to 4-0 with another dominating performance and now sit alone at the top of the section.
Gianna Mosca and
Hannah Hayes led the way. Gianna finished first in the 800m and 1600m, second in the long jump, and anchored the victorious 4x800m relay team alongside
Mira Mosca,
Charlotte Gauntner, and
Lindsay Bressler. Hannah finished first in the 100m and 300m hurdles, second in the high jump, and, with teammates
Ashlyn Johnson,
Lindsay Bressler, and
Shae Trombetta, ran to victory in the 4x400m relay. Also contributing individual wins were
Ashlyn Johnson (400m),
Emily Funka (3200m),
Shae Trombetta (High Jump), and
Bella Grega (Shot Put).
Although a tough loss dropped the boys to 1-3 on the season, several athletes stood out against the field.
Brayden Douglass took first in the 800m and the 1600m,
Brady Hernandez finished first in the 200m and second in the 100m, freshman Colin Hernandez picked up his first win in the 3200m,
Trey Moses outthrew the competition in the Javelin and Discus, and the 4x800m relay team finished first.
Alongside Colin, several other freshmen turned in notable performances.
Isabel Stuckeman and
Ava Ziemniak placed 2
nd and 3
rd in the 100m dash,
Molly Gauntner placed 2
nd in the 3200m, Leo Mosca took 2
nd place in the 800m, and
Jeremy Ye nearly ran down Brayden in the final 100 meters of the 1600m, finishing just over a second behind.
The OLSH track and field teams will return to action on Saturday, April 12 in the TSTCA Invitational at West Mifflin High School, followed by their final section meet against Western Beaver, BCCS, & Aliquippa (held at South Side Area High School), on Tuesday, April 15.
