The boys' and girls' track and field teams faced off against Aliquippa, BCCS, Western Beaver, and some very challenging weather conditions on Tuesday, April 16 at South Side Area High School.
The girls once again dominated the competition to secure a perfect 7-0 season and the section championship. Numerous individual runners contributed to the scoring:

st in the 100m and 3
rd in the 400m),
Ashlyn Johnson (1
st in the 400m),
Gianna Mosca (1
st in the 800m and 1600m),
Charlotte Gauntner (2
nd in the 800m),
Margaret Mary Sweeney (2
nd in the 1600m),
Emily Funka (1
st in the 3200m),
Molly Gauntner (2
nd in the 3200m),
Mira Mosca (3
rd in the 3200m), and
Hannah Hayes (2
nd in the 100m hurdles and 1
st in the 300m hurdles). The 4x400m and 4x800m relay teams also finished 1
st. In the field,
Shae Trombetta and
Ashlyn Johnson took 1
st and 3
rd place in the high jump and
Bella Grega,
Gabby Glevicky, and
Claire Dela Cruz swept the top three spots in the discus.
The boys finished the section season 2-5, but individual athletes continued to shine.
Owen Minzer took first in the 400m,
Brady Hernandez finished 3
rd in the 100m and 2
nd in the 200m, and
Brayden Douglass ran to a second place finish in the 800m and 1600m. In the field,
Trey Moses bested the competition and the wind to finish first in the discus.
As section champs, the girls will head to the WPIAL Team Semi-Finals on April 29 at Shenango and both squads will be back in action on April 26 at the South Fayette Invitational.
