The girls' and boys' track and field teams competed in their first section meet of the season against Freedom Area, Rochester, and South Side Area on Wednesday, April 2 at South Side Area High School. The girls swept the competition and finished 3-0, while the boys defeated Rochester to finish 1-2.
Fifteen different athletes and all three relay teams contributed points for the girls' team. First place finishers abounded on the track, with
Hannah Hayes (100m and 300m hurdles),
Gianna Mosca (1600m and 800m),
Isabel Stuckeman (100m),
Lindsay Bressler (400m),
Ashlyn Johnson (200m),
Mira Mosca (3200m) and the 4x800m and 4x400m relay teams all chalking up wins. In the field,
Madisyn Phillips and
Claire Dela Cruz contributed to the scoring with 2
nd and 3
rd place throws in the javelin,
Bella Grega made the third longest discus throw, and
Shae Trombetta finished 2
nd in the high jump.
On the boys' side,
Brayden Douglass led the way with first place finishes in the 1600m and 800m races and
Brady Hernandez contributed to the scoring with a 2
nd place finish in the 100m, 3
rd in the 200m, and as a member of the first place 4x100m relay team. In the field, newcomer
Owen Wasko placed second in the shot put and discus and
Trey Moses finished second in the javelin.
