The girls' and boys' track and field teams competed in their first section meet of the season against Freedom Area, Rochester, and South Side Area on Monday, March 30 at South Side Area High School. The girls swept the competition and finished 3-0, while the boys finished 1-2 defeating Rochester.
Eleven individual athletes and all three relay teams contributed points in a well-rounded performance by the girls' team.
First place finishers abounded on the track, Hannah Hayes (100m and 300m hurdles), Mira Mosca (1600m and 3200m), Eva Crofford (400m), Charlotte Gauntner (800m), and all three relay teams - 4x100m, 4x800m, and 4x400m - secured the win.
Lindsay Bressler placed second in both the 400m and 800m, while Ava Ziemniak took second in the 200m. Macie Trombetta earned second in the 1600m and third in the 800m, and Juliet Price finished second in the 3200m and third in the 1600m. Selena Mackin added a third-place finish in the 400m.
In the field events, Bella Grega led the way with a first-place finish in the javelin. Hannah Hayes added a second-place finish in the high jump, and Lily Hunter placed third in the discus.
On the boys' side, Owen Wasko and Trey Moses delivered standout performances. Owen Wasko won the shot put with a new school record throw of 45'4.5" and also taking first in the discus. Trey Moses claimed first place and broke his own school record in the javelin with a throw of 164'8", and Brayden Douglass finished second in both the 800m and 1600m.
