The Lady Chargers met the #3 ranked Hopewell Vikings last night at Cornell High School to finish off the regular season. The JV started off the night by winning their match in dramatic fashion. The girls won the first set 25-15, but then Hopewell turned the tables and did the same to the Chargers as they took the second set with a score of 25-14. This set up the deciding third set, and the Charger JV squad got out to a quick lead of 8-2, before the Vikings mounted a mini come back of their own, tying the score at 8-8. The Chargers made another run of points and got the score to 13-9, and then finished off the Vikings to win the JV match with a final score of 15-9.Â
The varsity team members then got ready for Senior Night as the team honored our 5 seniors:Â Emily Gallagher,
Donna Gurczynski,
Alexa Murphy,
Taylor Phillips, and
Riley Polidora. The recognition was well organized by the juniors and their parents. Thanks to everyone that had a hand in the ceremony. The match began with a lot of energy, but the Chargers ran into some trouble late in the match as they ran out of substitutions and used both time outs, but to no avail, as the Vikings took set one with a score of 25-16. A new line up in set two saw the Chargers challenge the Vikings all the way to the very end of the set, but in the end, Hopewell was able to barely squeak out the final result in their favor with a close 26-24 score. With the momentum from that set lost, the Chargers fell in the third set by the score of 25-11. The girls have qualified for the playoffs, finishing tied for third place in the section. They will learn later today who they play and when as the playoff bracket will be announced later this afternoon. The girls will also host 12 teams at a varsity tournament at Moon High School tomorrow. Best of luck in the playoffs. Â
