Boys Volleyball Wins Hard Fought Match Against Hopewell

The Boys Volleyball team traveled to Hopewell last night, and the Vikings had their minds set on a match win to move into a tie with the Chargers for fourth place in the section and a possible playoff berth.

The night began with the JV getting off to a slow start in their match, falling behind by 10 points. But as they kept trying to score points, they got themselves tied with 3 chances at set point, and ultimately ended up losing 27-25.  The second set was more of the same as the Chargers fell behind by a dozen points and looked all but dead in the water, but then rattled off about 10 points to get within 2 near the end.  A few errors at the end cost the JV the opportunity to play a 3rd set though, as they dropped the second set 25-23 and the match 2-0..

The Varsity squad got off to a slow start as well, falling behind by 6 points in the first set before reasserting themselves to take set one by a 25-23 score.  Set 2 was basically all Chargers as they controlled the set from start to finish and concluded with a 25-16 score.  But the Vikings would not go away quietly, as some of their student body showed up late from the baseball game and added to the energy for the Vikings as they took early leads during set 3.  With the score Hopewell 23, OLSH 19, the Chargers changed the momentum to their side as they got to 23-23, and then fought back and fourth until they prevailed and completed the comeback to win 26-24, and take the match.

This gives the Varsity a 5-5 record in the section and puts the boys in a 3rd place tie with Montour and Hopewell, now on the outside looking in for a playoff spot. Congrats to the guys on a hard fought win at a tough venue to play!
