On Saturday, the varsity Chargers faced tough competition at a tournament in Derry, posting solid results despite a few early setbacks. In their first pool play, the Chargers dropped two sets to West Shamokin but bounced back to split their match with Greater Latrobe.
In the reseeded second pool, the boys squared off against Derry, Central Martinsburg, and Fox Chapel. With a strong 5-1 record, they advanced to a play-in game against Altoona, which they won 25-23. This set up a matchup with Shaler, where the Chargers fought hard but fell 25-19, ending their tournament run. Despite the loss, the team showed competitive spirit throughout the day.
On Monday, the Chargers traveled to Portersville Christian for a match-up with the Warriors. The JV team made quick work of their opponents, winning in two sets (25-23, 25-10). The varsity squad followed suit, securing a 3-set victory with scores of 25-12, 25-17, and a thrilling 27-25 win in the third set.
Next, the Chargers will head to Montour for a crucial section game tonight. JV kicks off the action at 6 p.m., with varsity to follow at 7 p.m. Best of luck to the team!
