The OLSH varsity boys volleyball team secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Montour Spartans in a thrilling contest that showcased two evenly matched teams. The set scores reflected the intensity, with both teams exchanging narrow wins throughout the evening.
The Chargers got off to a strong start in the first set but ultimately fell short, losing 25-23. However, they bounced back in set two, winning by the exact same score, 25-23, to even the match at 1-1. The Chargers then took control in set three, securing a decisive 25-15 win, but the Spartans rallied in set four, edging out a 26-24 victory to force a dramatic fifth set. In the final set, the Chargers held their ground, securing a 15-13 win to claim the victory.
Several players stood out with impressive performances. Brady Rooney led the team with 14 kills, followed by Patrick Altmar with 12 and Isaac Tarbuk with 10. Noah Wheeler added 9 kills. Aiden Curry set the tone for the offense with 42 assists, while Patrick Altmar was a dominant presence at the net with 6 blocks, supported by Brady Rooney's 3.
In passing, Isaac Tarbuk led the way with a rating of 2.05 out of 3, followed by Zachary Konieczki at 1.89 and Noah Wheeler at 1.81.
Next up, the Chargers will face Ambridge at Cornell High School on April 3rd. The JV will play at 6:00 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 7:15 p.m.
