The Chargers girls volleyball team hit the road last night to face the defending WPIAL Champion Quaker Valley, and it turned into a night to remember—especially for the varsity squad.
The evening began with the JV team putting together a strong start; however, Quaker Valley found their rhythm late in the first set and carried that momentum forward. Despite the Chargers' efforts, they couldn't regain control, ultimately falling in straight sets by scores of 21-25 and 15-25.
The varsity squad came into the match determined to end a five-year losing streak against the Quakers—and they delivered. Set one was a tightly contested battle, with the Chargers jumping out to an early lead before QV rallied. It came down to the final few points, with the home team edging out the Chargers 29-27.
Undeterred, the Chargers regrouped and came out strong in set two, taking it convincingly 25-16. Sets three and four saw intense back-and-forth action, as Quaker Valley pushed hard to defend their home court. But the Chargers held their ground, showing grit and composure in key moments to win the final two sets 25-22 and 25-16, sealing a 3-1 victory and breaking the long-standing streak.
The stat leaders for the night were:
Carmella Rippole with 36 assists
Sophia Wasko with 18 digs and 6 aces
Leah Parker with 11 kills and 3 aces
Lola Garner with 9 kills and 9 digs
Izabella Coladonato with 9 kills and 7 kigs
Frankie Schlatterer with 5 kills and 4 blocks
Adrianna Batts with 6 kills
The win keeps the Chargers undefeated in section play and sets up a showdown next Tuesday at Hopewell, where the winner will take sole possession of first place.
It was a total team effort in a tough environment—well done, girls!
