The OLSH Girls Volleyball team faced a tough two-night stretch on the road this week. After a hard-fought match against top-ranked Hopewell, the Chargers rebounded in impressive fashion less than 24 hours later with a dominant showing against the Freedom Bulldogs.
Tuesday Night: Battle with #1 Hopewell
The Chargers traveled to face section-leader Hopewell and came away with a gritty performance, despite falling short in a 3-1 loss. The match was competitive from start to finish, with set scores of 18-25, 19-25, 25-22, and 23-25.
OLSH showed resilience throughout the match, especially in a hard-earned third-set win and a near comeback in the fourth. Though the result didn't go their way, the Chargers proved they could challenge one of the top teams in the section. The JV squad also put forth a solid effort, though they dropped their match in two sets.
Wednesday Night: Chargers Rebound at Freedom
With little time to rest, the Chargers traveled to Freedom the very next evening—and this time, both JV and varsity squads delivered strong performances.
The JV team pulled off an exciting three-set win. After controlling the first set to take an early lead, they dropped a tightly contested second set. The deciding set looked grim early as Freedom surged to a 10-5 lead and later held a 13-10 advantage. But the Chargers answered with poise and heart, going on a late serving run to steal the set and match with a thrilling 15-13 finish.
The varsity team followed up with an even more commanding performance, sweeping the Bulldogs in straight sets: 25-17, 25-14, 25-13. The Chargers improved their consistency with each set and never looked back, bouncing back from the previous night's loss with confidence and control.
Stat leaders for the night include:
Jenna Nastal with 6 kills and 1 dig
Julia Davoli with 3 kills, 3 aces, and 3 digs
Sophia Wasko with 9 digs and 4 aces
Carmella Rippole with 12 assists and 3 digs
With this bounce-back win, the Chargers reset their momentum as they prepare to head to Avonworth on Tuesday.
