After a tough stretch last week that left them searching for answers, the Chargers made some adjustments and were able to come away with wins in both the JV and varsity matches against Ambridge at home.
The JV squad set the tone early with a three-set victory closing it out 2–1. The decisive third set delivered all the drama, with the Chargers edging out a 15–13 win in a tense finish that showcased their composure under pressure.
That energy carried into the varsity match, though the start didn't come easy. The Chargers showed some spark early in set one, but made a few errors at the end that cost them the set, dropping it 20–25. They made some good progress and were able to stay with the Bridgers through the remaining 3 sets as they showed some internal fortitude and came away with the section match win! The set scores were 25–17, 25–18, and 25–21. The turnaround highlighted not just physical adjustments, but mental toughness, as the team stayed locked in against a competitive Bridgers squad.
Statistically, the Chargers leaned on a trio of offensive leaders. Isaac Tarbuk delivered a standout all-around performance with 13 kills and 10 digs, while Brady Rooney added 12 kills and Patrick Altmar chipped in 11 kills along with 3 blocks at the net. Aiden Curry had 35 assists, keeping hitters in rhythm throughout the match, and Marco Buzzard anchored the back row with 9 digs.
With the win, the Chargers now sit just one victory away from clinching a playoff spot. The opportunity comes quickly, as they will travel to rival Hopewell tomorrow night and take on the Vikings. With momentum on their side and post-season implications looming, the Chargers will look to carry this surge into this critical section match.Â
