There is a stigma around single-A football as being less than the other classifications, and when Burgettstown dropped from 2A after a perfect regular season - there were high expectations, and even a No. 3 preseason ranking ahead of No. 4 OLSH.
That was until Friday night, when the Chargers handled the Blue Devils in a 41-0 statement win heard all around the WPIAL.
It didn't take long for the Chargers to score, as junior
Jaymar Pearson took the games opening kickoff back for a score on an electric 89 TD run to jumpstart the purple and gold.
Five minuets later into the first Pearson finds himself in the end zone again, when sophomore quarterback Neimiah Azeem found Pearson on a screen pass and he did all the rest breaking it for an 80 yard TD.
Azeem would hook up with Pearson again in the air for a 32 yard Chargers touchdown increasing their lead to 21-0 to close out the first quarter of play.
The offense wasn't done yet - Chargers would score on their first possession of the quarter ending in a 2yard rushing touchdown by Azeem adding
another 6 to the scoreboard.
Sophomore defensive back
Dior Devers came away with interception which lead to a leaping touchdown by Pearson boosting the Chargers to a 35-0 lead after Pearson would find sophomore wide receiver Ziggy Mcintosh on a slant into the end zone to tack on the two point conversion.
Devers delivered the final blow to the Blue Devils with a 1 yard rushing touchdown to give the Chargers a 41-0 win that moves the OLSH Chargers up to (2-0) going into week three against Fort Cherry (0-1) who plays Saturday against Shenango.
