The OLSH football team was defeated last night at Moon Stadium by the Fort Cherry Rangers by a final score of 40-0. The Chargers offense was never really able to get off the ground against a strong Rangers defense.
The game opened up with the Chargers taking possession but they were unable to replicate the success they had on the ground a week ago. It was a prompt three and out and the Rangers wasted no time getting on the board once they got the ball. Landon Trnavski got the ball on a jet sweep and took it 49 yards to the end zone to put the Chargers in an early 7-0 hole. On the Chargers next possession, they fumbled the ball and it was returned 20 yards by Blake Sweder to make the score 14-0. After Penn State commit Matt Sieg ran the ball into the end zone to conclude the first quarter with the score at 21-0, the Chargers put together their best drive of the night. They had a few nice runs by
Jamire Samuels and
Christian Bush and a deep completion to wide receiver
John Anderson to work the ball to the Rangers six yard line. However, the drive stalled from there and ultimately ended with a blocked field goal attempt. The score at halftime was 28-0 and the final score of the game was 40-0 with the Rangers on top.
This was a very tough test for a young Chargers team against the back to back WPIAL champions. They will look to get back on track next week in their first road game of the season against the Seton LaSalle Rebels. The game will be played at West Allegheny high school and will kickoff next Friday at 7 PM.
