OLSH GIRLS BASKETBALL DOWNS MERCYHURST PREP AT CAL U SHOOTOUT

OLSH 43   Mercyhurst Prep 33

The Chargers got off to a fast start as Lola Garner scored eight of OLSH's first 10 points to give the team a 10-6 lead after the first quarter. Camryn Hummel added a basket in the opening frame as well as the Chargers set the tone early.

Defense continued to be the story in the second quarter. Mercyhurst Prep was held to just nine points, while OLSH received scoring from three players. Lola Garner added another four points, Macie Trombetta chipped in two, and Camryn Hummel added one as the Chargers took a slim 17-15 advantage into halftime.

OLSH extended its lead in the third quarter behind continued defensive pressure. Lola Garner scored on a put back and added two more points from the foul line. Camryn Hummel had a steal and a layup, and Macie Trombetta knocked down a long three-pointer to round out the offensive scoring. The Chargers limited Mercyhurst Prep to just five points in the quarter and led 26-20 heading into the fourth.

In the final frame, the Chargers opened the lead to double digits with four minutes remaining. Mercyhurst Prep applied full-court pressure, but OLSH handled it well down the stretch. Five different Chargers scored in the quarter, led by Macie Trombetta with six points. Rowan Winter and Leah Parker each added four, Camryn Hummel scored two, and Shae Trombetta added one. OLSH held on for the 10-point win, avenging a loss to the Erie County perennial AAA power from two seasons ago.

In JV action, the Chargers picked up a 52-18 victory over Alderdice, led by 15 points from Jules Goshen..

The Chargers are now 7-2 overall and 2-2 in section play.  OLSH returns to action tomorrow in their second match-up in the Cal U Holiday Shootout, where the Chargers will take on Brownsville Area. Varsity tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., with the JV team facing Bethel Park at 5:30 p.m.
