OLSH 54 McGuffey 20
The #6-seeded Chargers used a dominant second quarter to turn a tight opening into a runaway 53–21 victory over the #11-seeded Highlanders in the first round of the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs. McGuffey came out aggressive, taking early leads of 11–6 and later 15–14, but the momentum shifted late in the first quarter when Lola Garner hit a long three-pointer to put OLSH ahead for good. Lola Garner scored seven points in the opening frame, while Leah Parker added four to pace the Chargers' offense as they began to settle in.
In the second quarter, OLSH shut out the Highlanders in a 21–0 run. Rowan Winter reentered the game and poured in eight points during the surge, while Lola Garner added seven more and Macie Trombetta contributed four. The Chargers' defensive pressure forced empty possessions and transition opportunities, building a commanding halftime advantage of 38–15.
OLSH continued to stretch the lead in the third quarter. Lola Garner connected on back-to-back three-pointers, and both Leah Parker and Shae Trombetta added baskets as the clock was running. By the time the buzzer sounded, the Chargers had extended their lead to 48–15, holding McGuffey scoreless for a second consecutive quarter and effectively sealing the outcome.
With the running clock in effect during the fourth quarter, the Chargers narrowly outscored the Highlanders 6–5 in the final frame. Vivienne Goshen recorded the only field goal for OLSH, while Shae Trombetta and Jules Goshen each went 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.
With the first-round win, the Chargers advance to the WPIAL Class AAA quarterfinals, where they will face #3 seed Greensburg Central Catholic on Wednesday, 2/18. Site and time are to be determined.
