The Chargers football team traveled to Shenango for their first game of the regular season on Saturday, and came away with a nice 32-14 win. The O-Zone made its first appearance of the school year, with members showing up the game in full neon apparel to fit the theme of the evening.
Just a few minutes into the game, the Chargers kicked off the scoring with a 1-yard pass from
Nehemiah Azeem to
Dereon Greer for an OLSH touchdown. The 2 point conversion failed. Azeem and Greer then connected on a 66-yard pass and run play for another touchdown.
Billy Fryer kicked the extra point. With 4:50 remaining in the 1st quarter, OLSH took a 13-0 lead.
Just before the end of the 1st quarter, Shenango struck back with a touchdown of their own. They followed it up with an interception and touchdown shortly into the 2nd quarter, taking over the lead.
Shenango's lead didn't last long, however, as Azeem connected with
Dorrien Tate for an OLSH touchdown just a few minutes later. Fryer's extra point was good, giving OLSH a 20-14 lead going into the half.
Azeem connected with Tate again on a 56-yard catch and run for an OLSH touchdown a few minutes into the 3rd quarter. A 59-yard pass to Greer then gave the Chargers the final touchdown of the game with 5:30 remaining in the 3rd quarter, securing a 32-14 victory.
The Chargers play next at Rochester on Friday, September 2 at 7:00 pm.
