The OLSH softball team was victorious against Steel Valley in the first round of WPIAL Playoffs on Tuesday afternoon, pulling off an 8-5 win at North Allegheny HS.
OLSH got on the board in the bottom of the third inning after McKinley Walsh singled, Ava Ciummo doubled, Morgan O'Brien tripled, and Julia Pinter doubled, each scoring one run.
Steel Valley tied the game in the top of the fourth, but a sacrifice bunt by Jordyn Velmire put OLSH back in the lead, 5-4, in the bottom of the inning.
Steel Valley tied the game at five in the top of the fifth. A walk by Olivia DiGiacomo gave OLSH the lead again, 6-5, in the bottom of the fifth.
In the bottom of the sixth inning,
Leann Walzer homered to right field, scoring two runs to make it 8-5 OLSH.
Lilli Wamsley earned the win for OLSH. The starting pitcher surrendered nine hits and five runs (four earned) over seven innings, striking out five and walking two.
Leann Walzer went 1-for-4 at the plate, as the lead-off hitter led the team with two runs batted in. Ava Ciummo went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead OLSH in hits. The girls had patience at the plate, accumulating five walks for the game. Camryn Hummel and Lilli Wamsley led the team with two bases on balls.
