Bowling Season Wrap Up

The Our Lady of the Sacred Heart bowling teams wrapped up their season after two weekends of tournament competition at AMF Mt. Lebanon and Bowlero Pittsburgh, highlighted by strong individual performances and a Top 10 regional finish for the girls team.

WPIBL Championships

The tournament season began with the WPIBL Championships at AMF Mt. Lebanon. Prior to the singles competition, senior Jonah Schollaert was honored as the West Section MVP for finishing the regular season with the highest average in the section.

In the boys singles tournament, Oliver Tomsic led OLSH with a 511 series, placing 53rd and narrowly missing a regional qualification. Schollaert rolled a 467 series, placing 99th, but earned a regional bid by finishing in the top two in the section. Isaac Tarbuk also competed, finishing with a 463 series and a top game of 164.

On the girls side, senior Jordyn Velmire placed 36th with a 445 series and a top game of 157, earning a regional bid after finishing second in the West Section. Junior Natalie Turcios rolled a 433 series, placing 42nd. Junior Hannah Hayes posted a 396 series and earned an at-large regional bid based on her season average.

The OLSH boys team, which qualified for regionals after winning the West Section title, finished 22nd in the WPIBL Team Championships with a 2182 pin total. Isaac Tarbuk led the Chargers with a 498 series and a high game of 200, while Leeland Thompson added a 433 series. Seniors Roman Ritz, Jonah Schollaert, and Oliver Tomsic also contributed. Brayden Douglass and Aiden Ochtun served as alternates.

The OLSH girls team finished 11th at the WPIBL Team Championships with a 1936 series. Natalie Turcios led the team with a 472 series and a high game of 176. Seniors Jordyn Velmire (389 series) and Chloe Goodwin (388 series) followed closely, while Hannah Hayes and Katherine McCullough contributed strong performances throughout the tournament. Reagan Kavals and Eva Fardo served as alternates.

Western Pennsylvania Regional Championships

OLSH was well represented at the Western Pennsylvania Regional Championships at Bowlero Pittsburgh, with both teams and three individual bowlers qualifying.

The boys team finished 16th overall with a 3533 pin total. Isaac Tarbuk led the Chargers with a 577 series and a standout 254 game, one of the top scores of the event. Oliver Tomsic followed with a 549 series and a 215 high game, while Jonah Schollaert rolled a 532 series and Roman Ritz added a 480 series. Brayden Douglass and Leeland Thompson also contributed key games.

The team totaled 2573 pins before the Baker Games and added a 960 Baker series, highlighted by a 180 game and the varsity debut of sophomore Matthew Prince.

In the Regional Singles Championships, Schollaert finished with a 740 series, Velmire rolled a 704 series, and Hayes posted a 618 series, each representing OLSH in a competitive field.

Girls Team Regional Finish

The OLSH girls team closed out the regional competition with one of its strongest finishes in recent years, placing 10th overall with a 2811 pin total.

Velmire led the team with a 467 series and a 185 high game, while Goodwin added a 413 series with a 171 game. Hayes (365 series) and McCullough (362 series) also contributed across all three games. Turcios and Jacque Day added key scores before the Baker Games.

The Chargers then posted an 836 Baker series, including a 190 game, with contributions from the entire roster, including Reagan Kavals.

The OLSH bowling program would like to thank the school community, families, staff, and supporters for their encouragement throughout the season and looks forward to building on this year's success in the seasons ahead.
